Dear Mr. President,

We would like to thank you for your letter of sympathy for our son Captain Michael D. Martino - USMC dated November 9,
2005. He was one of the Cobra helicopter pilots killed in Ramadi on 2 November 2005 when their helicopter was shot down
by a surface-to-air missile.

Our son loved this country and the Marine Corps. Most of all he believed strongly in what he and his fellow servicemen
were doing to secure freedom for Iraq and thus provide security for our own country. Mike understood the big picture. He
had a strong belief that, if the United States did not persevere in Iraq, our country would face the danger of another 911
disaster or worse.

In the Sermon on the Mount at Mount Sinai, God gave guidance to his disciples on the obligations of every society for its
sustainment. Among these obligations, God said, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God”. We
believe our son like many other noble servicemen were put on this earth for this purpose.

Our son never quit at anything he believed in no matter what the obstacles. Many of your political rivals and the liberal
news media repeatedly call for withdrawal from Iraq and an end to the war. Their actions and words only embolden the
enemy at the expense of more precious human lives.

Mr. President, my wife and I are writing to let you know there are many people in America that understand the need to
continue this war, and the sacrifices that must be made. We have experienced these sacrifices first hand.

We pray that you will remain strong and steadfast in your determination to see this war to a successful conclusion. That
is the only solution that will provide security and freedom for our children and grandchildren. God bless you for you too
are a peacemaker.

You are in our prayers, always.

Sincerely,

Robert A. & Sybil E. Martino
